Paul left a career in the city to
study voice under Hazel Wood at Trinity College of Music, where he gained both
a bachelor's and a master's degree, and was a medal-winner. He was the 1998/9 recipient
of the Drapers Company scholarship.
He has performed oratorio in all the
major London venues, and widely throughout the U.K. and Europe, and song both
in the U.K. and in Germany. He made his Proms debut in 1993 in a contemporary
work by Judith Bingham, and his Wigmore Hall debut in 1999, performing lieder
and the world premieres of contemporary, british works.
Opera roles include: M. Vogelsang,
Mozart Schauspieldirektor; Corpo, Cavalieri Rappresentatione
dell'Anima e di Corpo; Pastore I, Monteverdi Orfeo; 4th Fisherman,
Diana Burrell The Albatross (world premiere); Nettuno, Vistola Fiume,
and Astolfo, F. Caccini La Liberatione di Ruggiero dall'Isola d'Alcina
(U.K. premiere); and Sailor, Purcell Dido and Aeneas.
Musicals roles include: Joseph, Zebulan,
and the Butler, Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat;
Mysterious Man, Into the woods; Mr. Maraczek, She Loves Me; Jimmy
Powers, City of Angels; and Freddie, My Fair Lady.
Recordings include the critically
acclaimed Cantique des Cantiques by Lesur on ASV, and contemporary works.
Paul regularly appears at the Churches
of Little Venice, singing a wide selection of music in a variety of styles. He
is currently studying privately, under John Wakefield.
