With Glen Robson back from suspension the only regular player missing for todays match was the injured Gary Edmunds. Harrogate Town's "Luxury" players looked like an unnecessary extravagance today. Against a Physically strong Gretna side Town failed to keep possession, and more importantly, failed to get involved.
The (few) attacks by Town in the first half showed how vulnerable the Gretna team could be. It was the visitors though who opened the scoring following an Uncharacteristic mistake from Damien Henderson after 35 minutes. Following the goal Martin Regan was replaced by Jimmy Wright.
Town pushed hard for the equaliser, but were constantly dragged back into a messy midfield battle. Pat McDaid and Glen Robson stood out as the only Town players to put themselves about.
If Town were looking to step it up in the second half, Gretna soon quashed the plan. A 48th minute free kick lead to the 2nd Gretna goal and 5 minutes later a miskicked clearance by Kevin Wolfe was picked up for the 3rd. For 20 minutes Town managed to apply some pressure, Nacho Ybarro scoring his first goal for the club from 20 yards. Town were put back in the game when a cross from Steve Perrin was nodded into the top corner by Glen Robson.
For the last 20 minutes Gretna desperately time wasted, the Keeper tying his bootlaces half a dozen times! Nacho Ybarro forced a spectacular save with another superb strike from 25 yards, but Gretna had the last word with a late goal (87 minutes) A poor team performance from Town, the last 2 teams to play here have highlighted the fact that Harrogate don't have 11 players who want to play for the Club................
Squad:- Kevin Wolfe, Mike Parkinson (Capt.), Mark Wells, Steve Hartley, Damien Henderson, Pat McDaid, Ignacio Linares Ybarro, Steve Perrin, Glen Robson, Martin Regan, Martin Pemberton. Subs:- Jimmy Wright, Richard Dale, Paul James.
