Hucknall Town - The Unibond division 1 leaders came to Wetherby Road in a confident mood (too confident). The first half hour saw Town having the majority of the play with Hucknall relaxed and arrogant, managing to foil Town's attacking play. A quickly taken Martin Regan free kick for Town after 28 minutes caught Dave McCarthy, the Hucknall Keeper well off guard, but a top quality reflex save kept the ball out of the net. Powerful attacks from Town in the remainder of the first half produced near misses for Martin Pemberton and old bloke Gary Edmunds.
Town were up for it in the second half, with Hucknall a little more dangerous but seeming to be a little perturbed and panicky. The much admired Hucknall defence was breached with ease by Martin Pemberton and Martin Regan, with the Hucknall Keeper keeping Town at bay on 3 or 4 occasions. Glen Robson was replaced by new signing Linton Brown, who quickly blended into the team, looking like another top quality signing. After a sustained period of pressure Town were rewarded after 78 minutes when Martin Regan latched onto a low Hucknall clearance - scoring the goal of the season, scissor kicking from 25 yards out.
Hucknall rallied round in the last 15 minutes to try and salvage a point, but were easily kept out by Town's defence, Damien Henderson having another superb game;- again, throughout the match he was not beaten, either on the deck or in the air. Squad:- Kevin Wolfe, Mike Parkinson (Capt.),Mark Wells, Gary Edmunds, Damien Henderson, Pat McDaid, Steve Perrin, Martin Pemberton, Glen Robson, Martin Regan, Kevin Ward. Subs:-Linton Brown, Steve Sanders, Gary Lynn.
