Boeing B17G
The Boeing B17 "Flying Fortress" formed the spearhead of the
American bombing offensive in europe from beginning to end as well as
serving in every other theatre of war. The B17 made possible the controversial
US policy of strategic bombing of Germany by day in the face of ferocious
political argument as well as determined enemy opposition. The reputation
of the B17 was established despite its inferiority in many respects to
it's contemporary the B24 liberator, indeed the bomb load of the B17 over
