Junkers 88 G-1 The most important German bomber of the second world war the Ju88 offered high performance and a very high degree of versatility which made the Ju88 a formidable combat weapon during the entire six years of war. The definitive nightfighter version of the Junkers 88 was the Ju88G, very heavilly armed and radar equipped. Externally the Ju88G differed from previous versions in having a solid nose and the ventral gondola removed. It also featured the larger, square fin first used on th Junkers 188. All of the offensive weaponry was contained in a ventral weapons tray beneath the fuselage offset to port. The prototype first flew in early 1944 and the production version first entered service during the summer of 1944, replacing earlier versions f the Ju88 nightfighter and where possible the Me110. During the final few months of the war the Ju88G was the standard German nightfighter and destroyed more allied bombers than all other night fighter's combined. Production continued until the end of the second world war in Europe. Performance (Junkers Ju88G1-6) Maximum
speed: 365 mph at 33,500 ft.
