Messerschmitt BF109GThe BF109G was based around the installation of the more powerful DB605A engine in a BF109F airframe. The Gustav as this model was called by its pilots accounted for two thirds of all Me109 production. Compared to earlier models the G model was overdeveloped and lacked the manouverability and handling of earlier models. The G model was highly criticised for its low speed handling, ground handling and lateral control.Nonetheless the G model was numerically at least the most important German fighter of the latter part of World War Two and bore the brunt of defending the Reich from marauding allied aircraft.Performance A
top speed of 386 mph at 22,640 ft |
