| Match Report - Bredon V Peopleton F.C. | |
|
With only 6 games
remaining and Bredon lying in third place, Peopleton were determined to
consolidate their position at the top and extend the points gap over both
Bredon & Broadway. On a very "Swedenesque" cold day Bredon won the toss
and elected to kick up the slight slope with the wind at their backs for
the first half. The windy conditions and bobbly pitch made it difficult
for both sides to play good football. In fact Peopleton seemed to be very
slow coming out of the blocks with Bredon getting the Lions share of
possession in the early stages. Gradually Peopleton got into the game and
once they had found their way around the Bredon offside trap began to
carve out some chances. Both Andy Brant and Shaun Marston had attempts on
goal but they didn't cause the Bredon Keeper to much of a problem. Bredon
themselves had a number of chances but failed to trouble Adcock in goal.
The one time they had a good chance a timely last ditch tackle by Peterson
saved the day as the Bredon player was about to unleash a shot. Peterson
was once again involved at the other end when put through on goal only to
shoot wide of the mark. Apart from Fryer's booking and subsequent
frustration with the ref, there was very little of note in the first half.
Half time score 0 -0 . Wind assisted in the second half Peopleton put more pressure on the Bredon back four. Early on Fryer met the ball from a corner and forced the keeper into an excellent save. Brixey missed an absolute sitter from a yard out with a free header from a corner. 20 minutes into the second half the deadlock was finally broken when a cross found Andy Brant, he headed goal ward only for the Keeper to tip the ball onto the bar, but the resulting re-bound fell at Brant's feet and he rifled the ball in from close range, much to the joy of Jim McClymont who did a highland fling up and down the touchline. Shaun Attwood came on in place of Shaun Marston with Tom Andrews pushing up front with Brant. Both Brant and Andrews then came close with volleys. Bredon were restricted to few meaningful attacks but the Peopleton back four, who this week were once again Voyceless held firm and Adcock in goal had little to trouble him. With about 10 minutes remaining a cross from the left from Lavery deflected to the back post and Attwood was there to head home and seal the match. With 5 minutes remaining what appeared at first to be a Stork stood on one leg in the middle of the park turned out to be Brixey with an ankle injury. Despite his "Old Soldier" stance, "I'm alright I can play on one leg!" Manager McClymont was forced in to substituting him for the up and coming exciting young striker Wright. Brant dropped into the back four and Wright partnered Andrews for the remainder of the game and indeed would have made it 3 - 0 with his first touch when he found himself totally unmarked as Andrews took the ball up the left wing, but Andrews pass was left wanting so it was never to be the fairytale end. | Match Report - Peopleton FC V Golden Cross | |
|
On a cold Winters morning Peopleton entertained Golden Cross at the field
of dreams, a field that has to be said caused a torrid sleepless night for
Grounds man George Lavery, who worried through the night about the
playability of some areas of the pitch and even contemplated mowing it at
12 midnight, that's dedication for you. Having recorded a convincing 6 - 0
win against Golden Cross earlier in the season Peopleton were quietly
confident of repeating that success and it quickly became apparent that
this was likely. Within 42 seconds (quicker than Riise for Liverpool)
Peopleton were 1 - 0 up. Just after kick-off Andy Baxter won back the ball
in midfield and passed the ball out to Shaun Marsden on the left wing,
Shaun's first time cross found the head of Andy Brant who made light work
of heading Peopleton in front. Peopletons dominance of the game was
obvious, good interchanges between Toad & Tom Andrews and Fryer and Baxter
had Golden Cross on the back foot. Early efforts from Fryer and Lavery
were just wide of the mark, with the majority of the play being Peopletons
it looked like it wouldn't be long before they increased the lead. Golden
Cross were restricted to breakouts but even then the Peopleton defence
held their own. Once such chance was quickly snuffed out by a timely
intervention from Brixey. Andy Baxter continued to put crosses into the
Golden Cross box, one was on it's way to Andrews at the back post but was
just cleared for a corner off the head of a defender. Another found Shaun
Marsden who shot just over. Andrews pulled the ball back to the ever
present Baxter whose shot was well saved by the keeper. Despite all the
pressure Peopleton hadn't increased the lead, but on the 20 min mark that
changed when Baxter once again put a good ball out to Tom Andrews on the
right wing, his cross found Brant at the back post unmarked for an easy
tap in. At this point in the proceedings "Director of football" Jim Burton
joined the buoyant throng on the touchline, it was duly noted that he was
late on parade his excuse being something to do with the quantity of white
wine consumed the previous night. Funny that sort of thing never seems to
affect the players!!!! Peopleton continued to press forward and a low shot
from Andrews was deflected for a corner, from that corner Fryer headed the
ball on to Brant who just headed wide. Meanwhile on the line Shaun
Attwood's ability to return balls that had gone into touch provided much
amusement to the capacity crowd (12). Hopefully his passing will improve
if he gets on!! Further chances fell to Shaun Marsden but the keeper came
out quickly to smoother them. Golden Cross staged one break out of defence
and found themselves in a one on one with the last defender Shepchenko but
a quick run back and well timed tackle by Brixey averted the danger. On 31
minutes Peopleton increased their lead when a ball from Shepard went into
Baxter with his back to goal on the left corner of the 18yd box, he turned
inside ran across the box and unleashed a dipping shot over the keeper and
into the net. Before half time further chances fell to Andrews, Marsden
and Peterson but poor finishing or good keeping kept the score down. The
final goal of the first half came when Shaun Marsden ran onto a through
ball and drove in a shot, the keeper saved that but the rebound fell at
Shaun's feet and he made no mistake the 2nd time. Half time 4 - 0. The second half kicked off and a solo run by Brant was thwarted by the Cross defence. 10 minutes into the second half saw Brant replaced by current top scorer Hughes. Another rare foray by Golden Cross saw Peterson time his tackle to block the Golden Cross midfielder's shot. Adcock by this time was getting bored in the Peopleton goal having very little to do, so he started dreaming about the clean sheets he hadn't kept!! Nothing to do with football mind!! 20 Mins into the second half veteran defender Voyce out from injury for 2 weeks came on for Rich Marsden, meanwhile Hughes had a number of half chances for Peopleton but was denied by the keeper. Suddenly like slow motion from a war film when the hero is running to attack, dodging the bullets, Brixey picked up the ball in the Peopleton half and went on a solo run down the right side, past one then two then three Golden Cross players he reached the 18yd box then unleashed a fierce drive........ that was going well wide until the Golden Cross keeper palmed it into his own net, 5 - 0. After 25 minutes the final substitution was made, Mulholland replaced Tom Andrews, leaving the unfortunate Attwood to contemplate the downs of being 4th sub when you can only use 3, and the despairing Wright to contemplate why at the young age of 46 he can't even make 4th sub. Another rare foray this time by Shepchenko of Peopleton saw him reach the by-line and cross for Marsden to volley in a shot which the keeper saved, the rebound fell to Hughes who found Lavery, his cross was pushed out by the busy Golden Cross keeper to Mulholland whose volley went over the bar. Further chances fell to Baxter, Hughes and Marsden before Peterson made it 6 -0. A break down the left saw him cut in and cross the ball in low and hard which a Golden Cross player turned into his own net. With only 15 mins remaining Hughes added to his season tally when a through ball put him in behind the defence with only the keeper to beat, he calmly side-stepped the keeper and slotted home, 7-0. Frustration then got the better of a Golden Cross player who ended up with a yellow card for dissent. Peopleton comfortably ran the clock down and even had further chances to make it 8 with Mulholland, Hughes and Peterson going close. Final Score 7 - 0. Peopleton FC 7 - Brant 2,
Baxter, Marsden, Brixey, Peterson, Hughes |
