BUZZCOCKS #1.0 Jul 20, 1976 - Feb 1977

Debut in Manchester at Theatre Upstairs, Lesser Free Trade Hall, supporting the Sex Pistols with Slaughter And The Dogs.
Gez notes:
'The Buzzcocks had a half hour tv special on Granada TV here in the UK last Monday [Oct 17, 1994] which had lots of early footage including some home movie footage from there first ever gig, as well as the videos for 'Do It' and 'Libertine Angel'. This was all spliced with interviews with Shelley/Diggle.' [This note from Gez is included because it was previously unknown to this discography that their first gig was recorded in any way.]
Devoto left the group after 11 gigs, ostensibly to finish his college degree but this never happened. He formed Magazine in late 1977.
Pete Shelley notes:
'He did finish his degree but failed his finals.'
DEVOTO:
"By that time there were hundreds of other bands with a similar sound, which didn't make it very interesting for me. I didn't feel committed in any way to that sort of music. I would have pulled the group back because my heart wasn't in it." [Jon Young interview, Trouser Press #44, Nov 1979]
(They briefly reunited in Jul 1978 for a single song performance of 'I Can't Control Myself' broadcast on the "What's On" TV special in the UK, as found on the bootlegs Best In Good Food and Razor Cuts).
