Channel Four went on air on 2nd November 1982 (S4C went on air the previous day). With a remit to provide public service commercial broadcasting, with an emphasis on minority programming. Initially performing a role as 'an ITV2' the channel is now more independent.

The channel has rerun a few classic ITV series including:

The Avengers, Danger Man, The Prisoner, The Human Jungle, The Persuaders and classic imports such as Naked City and The Twilight Zone.

The channel also had an archive season called TV HEAVEN presented by the tv writer Frank Muir, which showed much archive material (much from defunct ITV broadcasters).

S4C - Broadcasts instead of CH4 in Wales - This has output in Welsh and also takes a large proportion of CH4 output, although most programmes are time-shifted or shown at other times (episodes are often weeks or months different - it does offer more choice if you are fortunate enough to live in the overlap zone).

Welsh Language programmes are broadcast a peak time, with many being provided by ITV broadcaster HTVwales, Who had previously broadcast many of the shows.
