Covering the North of Ireland, Ulster has retained it's franchise throughout with mainly local programming and little Network contribution, in fact it has often opted out of Network showings of programmes which were felt to be politically sensitive. In the most recent franchise battle(1992) it had stiffest competition, but it still retained it's franchise.
