CLICK TO LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL UK 'ATV IDENT' THEME (Real Audio) Series of not quite feature length drama stories from the ATV/ ITC stable with a sub-international guest cast (intentionally made with the overseas market in mind), but produced in the UK. The strange timings it seems making them an ideal fit between the end of 'News-At-Ten' at 10.40pm and ITV 1970's closedown, at around midnight; although originally receiving a Prime Time Networked slot, repeats were sporadic around the ITV regions during the 70's and early 80's. The series was created as an anthology series for Sir Lew Grade's ITC company by Brian Clemens, with the 'Avengers' veteran contributing the vast majority of scripts. Produced with an effective mix of fixed sets at Elstree and a minimal amount of location filming (which added to the atmosphere and gave the stories a definite theatrical quality). Although today they may seem dated, and result in some stories having a rather tacky feel about them. Some stories are in the 'So bad, They're good' category - You Have Been Warned! CLICK TO LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL UK 'THRILLER' THEME (Real Audio) The production standards for the time were high with obvious good and bad episodes (as with most long running series). The series produced some real gems and gave us early appearances of many future well known actors and actresses, plus a few screen veterans. So if you want to do some Star spotting and see the early works of some well known faces from recent years alongside those from the past, then - This Is The Series For You! My personal recommendations are: 'Someone At The Top Of The Stairs', 'The Colour Of Blood'(aka The Carnation Killer) and 'Coffin For The Bride'(aka Kiss,Kiss,Kill,Kill). All of which are typical examples of the formula, incorporating Red-Herrings and Blind-Alleys galore. 'Lady Killer'(aka The Death Policy) is yet another that fails to disappoint. Those episodes released in the UK on Pre-Recorded Video include some of the best of the bunch (each of these four episodes were penned by Brian Clemens himself ). Having not viewed the episode recently myself I can't confirm whether it is technically part of the series. It is known that it is a Yorkshire Television one-off drama that was tagged onto the end of season 2 broadcasts and believed to have been billed at the time as an episode of 'Thriller'. It is apparently said to a much remembered story. (personally I can't remember this one from original transmission, but it was 25 over years ago!). It also aired as part of the package sold to ABC in the US. (which would seem to add credence to it being a 'Thriller' episode) [ the recording still exists in the Yorkshire Televison archives ]

Broadcast History

The entire series remains unaired in the UK in recent years (ATV losing it's franchise at the end of 1981). The 'Westward' and 'HTV' tv regions had aired episodes toward the end of the late 1970's in a late Friday night spot and 'TVS' is known to have shown some as Late Night Movies on Mondays during the 1980's. In the US episodes were aired on ABC and syndicated in the late 1970's, often showing in an obscure early morning slot (all in the TVM format). Although it's also known that episodes from the series have aired in Australia since and have had a brief resurrection on satellite in the UK on the 'old style' Bravo channel (some of these were TV Movies which would indicate that they no longer exist in the original ' Thriller' format).
