| Biography Peter studied piano, violin, viola and, briefly, horn at school in Hertfordshire. He rapidly developed an interest in composition, writing and performing many instrumental pieces, and, urged on by his teachers and the early success of these youthful concerts, went on to study composition with Bernard Stevens and piano with John Russell at the Royal College of Music, 1971-1974. Peter returned to study at Goldsmiths' College where he was strongly encouraged to resume writing, finally being awarded a Master of Music degree in Composition in 1994. There he had several pieces performed including Pattern Sonata for flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano, given, amid much praise, by the virtuoso ensemble Double Image. Peter's latest work includes: the string piece Breaking Strings given at Goldberg Contemporary Music Festival; Christus Factus Est, a motet written for the Orlando Consort and peformed by them at the City of London Festival; and Doorkeeper, a setting of psalm 84 with contemporary sayings, written especially for the BBC Singers and peformed by them at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Feb 2005. |
