The Bristol & West Model Aero Club was established in 1933, and is a thriving club mainly devoted to 'free flight' model aircraft flying. The club is based in the South West of England, and presently has about 40 members.
Many members compete in free flight duration competitions throughout England, and also on the continent of Europe. Additionally, some members manage to combine their annual holidays with World/European Championships around the world.
The club has been especially successful in winning the Plugge Trophy, a trophy originally donated in about 1928, and now competed for on an annual club basis by means of six contests spread through the year with clubs flying at their own Area venues with the results compiled as a country wide postal event. Each of the six events is flown to a different class to provide a variety of contests to meet the different disciplines of members.
