Letters to the Editor. 20/6/03.
Our hospital's health is in terminal
decline
Dear Sir,
Your article on agency nurses paints a wretched
picture of the effects of housing on health
provision in one of the most affluent economies in
the world. But the truth is even stranger.
Paddington Churches Housing Association issued
eviction notices to two nurses in Loveridge Road a
year and a half ago in order to supply the house to
Camden's Homeless Persons Unit.
The house is still empty, and stands with its
expensive steel doors as a monument to the
stupidity of PCHA and the council.
Central government have serious clout. Why do
they permit this Whitehall farce which has cost
about £12,000 in rent. The cost to the health
service due to the employment of agency staff will
be rather more.
We need a Wastage Czar with savage and
unforgiving teeth.
Yours sincerely,
Peter Rutherford.
