Why have our homes not been improved?

October 17th 2003.

Tenants of the former West Hampstead Housing Association (WHHA) have made a formal complaint about the organisation's replacement company Genesis Housing Group.

Members of the WHHA Tenants Association have asked Genesis to explain its claim that it has spent more than £500,000 on short life properties in Camden when they have seen no improvement to their homes.

Figures released last month show that Genesis spent £363,000 on management costs and £162,000 on routine maintenance.

Genesis has refused to release a detailed breakdown of how the money was spent, saying that the figures are "part of thoroughly audited statements according to legal requirements".

Tenants' Association member, Peter Rutherford, has now written to the Housing Corporation - the government-sponsored body set up to regulate housing associations - asking for pressure to be put on Genesis to provide a detailed set of accounts.

WHHA collapsed in October 2001 with £8 million debts and has been taken over by the umbrella group Genesis, which includes Pathmeads and Paddington Churches Housing Association.
