Let down on homes

Dear Editor,

Two years ago, there was a scandal about the Church Commissioners selling their homes to housing associations and private companies.

Genesis Housing Group and Grainger bought, at a special rate, a vast number of the Church Commissioners's homes. It was argued that HAs were "not for profit" companies working for the social housing market, and so, somehow or other, this was O.K.

The inevitable has begun. According to page 4 of your April 23 edition, the process of selling off at auction has started with two homes to go under the hammer in a week.

The Church Commissioners should know better than to sell off their housing in this way. They have let us all down.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Rutherford.
