OPERATION Important: When using radio controlled equipment, the transmitter should always be switched on before, and switched off after, the receiver. This ensures that you are always in control of the receiver (i.e. the boat). 1. Extend the radio control transmitter aerial, then switch on the transmitter. 2. Attach the aerial and press the on/off button once (the handset aeriel should point vertically at all times. Pointing the transmitter aerial at the boat will result in considerably reduced operating range). The boat will go through a self test of the system including turning on each pump in turn. 3. Load your bait into either or both 'hoppers'. The doors may be opened by moving the door levers towards the midline of the boat. 4. Place the Baitboat in the water. The reverse pump may need to be primed by turning on the pump and pressing the back of the boat down until the pump is outputing water from the forward port. 5. Move the throttle forward to guide the Baitboat to its destination. At the desired place, unload the bait by moving the rudder control to the left (for left door) or right (for the right door) and move the throttle into reverse for a short period and then release it to centre. The reverse motor will not operate in this configuration, but if you operate the reverse lever first, the pump will start until you move the rudder stick left or right. When the bait has been unloaded, guide the boat back to you. 6.If the throttle trim is set backwards the boat will operate in slow speed with the throttle stick forward and if this trim is set forward then the boat will operate in high speed with the stick forward. The slow speed is for light conditions, difficult locations and/ or economic running. The fast speed is for long distance, poor conditions and where battery life is not as important as overall speed. If difficulties with turning right are experienced, moving the throttle into half speed briefly will allow a smaller turning circle. 7 Remove the Baitboat from the water and gently close the hopper doors. Switch off the boat by pressing the button again. 8 Switch off the transmitter. ADDITIONAL OPERATING NOTES. i.) There is no mechanical rudder used in the Baitboat and its steering is achieved by altering the power of the two rear pumps. There is no directional capability in reverse and should only be used as a 'get you out of trouble' option. ii. Continued starting, stopping & reversing of the Baiboat is expensive on battery life. Smooth operation at all times is recommended in order to ensure a running time of approximately 45 minutes. If it appears the boat is becoming exhausted and may not make it back to you, then let the boat drift for a while and the battery may recover enough energy to make the return. It is recommended that a bankside charger be used to top up the battery after every trip. iii. If the pumps filters become blocked the steering of the boat may become impossible. Putting the boat into reverse will not clear the filters. If the boat appears to have a blocked filter, let it drift for a while until the offending blockage falls away from the filter. iv. A section of each hopper door has been chamfered to allow the fishing swivel to protrude outside the boat. v. Should the jetboat take in water, holding the boat vertically by its handle should drain the water. This practise is recommended at all times. vi. A fluorescent flag will appear at the rear of each hopper door when the doors have been operated. This gives a clear indication, from a distance, that the doors have been opened. viii. The Baitboat can be used in wind and rain but common sense should be used in very difficult situation like strong winds. If the situation gets very difficult while you are still on the water the boat should be driven into or away from the wind whichever is most convenient. Do not use the boat in high winds and choppy conditions. ix. The control reversing switches may be used at anytime bearing in mind that all operations will be affected. It is sometimes useful when using the boat for the first time to use the rudder reversing switch when the boat is facing towards you. x. If the transmitter is turned off while the boat is still on the boats lights will flash, indicating a loss of radio signal. This feature is useful for finding the boats maximum range in low light and for determining if another radio is interfering with your boat. xi. The pumps may be run out of water without fear of damage unless fouled by a blockage BATTERY CHARGING Two chargers are provided with the Baitboat. The 'Ripmax' unit is capable of charging the boat from fully discharged to fully charged in approximately 14 hours. The handset unit will charge the transmitter in about 7 hours with the voltage selector on 9v (do not charge for more than 10 hours). The polarity selector should be set to the left hand position (tip of conventional plug is '+'). The charger could be used in the 12v position and could charge the transmitter within 1 hour but the transmitter must be completely discharged before charging and leaving the charger on longer than an hour could result in a violent discharge of gas (explosion), and is not recommended. The 7.5 volt (or lower) position will not charge the transmitter. Dry cells (i.e. non-rechargeable batteries) may be used in the transmitter and will always give longer life. SAFETY The coloured flag provided with the transmitter is for identification of the radio channel being used (and also prevents poking someone in the eye). The flag SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED. Care should also be taken with the boat aerial. CARE OF YOUR EQUIPMENT 1.Do not drop the baitboat as this may damage internal parts. 2.It is recommended that the Baitboat be wiped down with a damp cloth after use. 3.To ensure the best release of bait from the jetboat, we recommend the use of a good polish (e.g.'Mr Sheen') on those surfaces that come into contact with the bait. 4.Although the electronics are sealed it is important that the Baitboat and transmitter be stored in a warm, dry place when not in use, in order to prevent condensation build up. 5.The transmitter should be protected from water at all times. 6 It is important that the transmitter is not turned off before the boat. 7 The boat and transmitter should not be stored for long periods without being charged. Failure to do so may result in seriously and permanently reduced running times. FAULT DIAGNOSIS Fault Symptom Action Slow running motors. Boat battery voltage is low Charge the boat battery. low radio range Transmitter or boat batteries need recharging. Charge the transmitter. Motors run correctly but no boat movement. Filter(s) blocked. Clean filter(s) Boat does not respond to transmitter control (i) Boat battery is flat. (i) Charge the boat battery. (ii) Transmitter batteries are flat. (ii) Charge the transmitter. Doors open without command. (i) Boat or transmitter batteries are low. (i) Charge batteries. (ii) Radio interference from other sources. (ii) Check other boat users Boat goes round in circles (i) Steering trim not set correctly (i) Set steering trim (ii) Battery low on boat or transmitter (ii) Charge batteries (iii) Blocked filter(s) (iii) Clean filters (iv) Air lock in pump. (iv) Run pumps with outlets out of the water. Transmitter lights not coming on batteries not seating properly re-install batteries. Boat will not steer with rig Line tension too high remove bail arm trail the line from the boat handle with a slip knot. Door(s) will not open / close (i) Pressure on door too high (i) reduce pressure (ii) Flag plate interfering with rear of hopper (ii) gently bend door / release lever. (iii) Servo Jammed by water seal. (iii) release doors manually and gently but firmly push either lever the opposite way than for opening until the servo is freed. Many things will cause radio interference with the boat including other boat users, CB radios, metal to metal rubbing, weather (especially rain), low batteries, radio 'dead spots' (defined areas where the boat receives overwhelming point transmissions from unknown sources). If you suspect it is a fault with the boat then, before you return the boat, please try again on another water well away from the area.If you have any further questions regarding the boat a technical helpline is available on +44 (0)1594 823932 (0900-1800).
