This is a 24 hour, examination course, requiring 2 external examiners, which aims to establish a standard of first aid skills that meet the requirements for the Health & Safety First Aid @ Work Act 1981. It includes cardio pulmonary resuscitation of adults, care and first aid of both conscious and unconscious casualties, and to deal with first aid emergencies. Defibrillator training is included if required, 3 hours extra.
HSE requires that the course
must be completed in 13 weeks maximum.
Timetable options:
This is a 12 hour examination course, requiring 2 external examiners, and is for candidates who possess a current valid FAW qualification and who need to revalidate at the end of 3 years. Defibrillator training is included if required, 3 hours extra.
This course is 4 hours, and is aimed at people who are in charge of the First
Aid arrangements, rather than actually doing the First Aid, but a short
introduction to resuscitation and basic First Aid is included. Defibrillator training is
included if required, 3 hours extra.
No examination.
This 6-hour course is recommended as a yearly refresher for those with the First Aid at Work and Appointed Persons qualifications. Max 12 candidates per course. No examination required.
This is a two hour course aimed at parents and child-minders to learn what to do when faced with a non-breathing or choking infant, including obstruction of breathing due to a foreign body in the throat. No examination.
This is a 6 hour course, with no examination.

The National Child Minding Association (NCMA) and the Pre-School Learning
Alliance (PSLA) have approved this course. Includes recognition of a wide

This course is 4 hours, and is for people who have access to a Defibrillator. Many workplaces have invested in these, and therefore require their First-Aiders to be qualified to use the equipment. The first hour of this course is training in resuscitation, so for any person combining the course with a First Aid course, the duration would only be 3 hours.
This is aimed at employees who need to fulfil their legal requirement to attend a Manual Handling course bi-annually.
