- Bow on leaving and entering the Dojo.
- Address any instructor as Sensei while in Dojo.
- 'Oss' is a sign of respect and is generally used in Karate, especially in the following situations:
- Upon receiving any advice or command from a Sensei (Instructor).
- When bowing at the start and finish of class.
- When bowing to your partner during kumite.
- In any other appropriate situation, for instance during grading and competitions.
- All Students must respect higher grades.
- No one is to leave the class early without first obtaining prior permission.
- No mobile phones are allowed to be left on while in the Dojo without prior permission from the Sensei.
- Finger and toe nails must be kept clean and short.
- Gi's must be kept clean and ironed.
- Jewellery (i.e. rings, bracelets, etc.) must not be worn. If you cannot get a ring off, then tape must be wrapped around it.
- Members must not smoke, drink, eat or chew gum or commit any other act likely to offend the etiquette of the Dojo.
- Members must apply for a license from the 'Shotokan of England Karate Union' (S.E.K.U.) within the first four weeks of joining the club.
