- Leave the A41 at signs for BERKHAMSTED town centre (B4251) and pass through it.
- Turn RIGHT at the traffic lights onto the B4506 signposted ASHRIDGE.
- Follow this for about 2 MILES, climbing the hill and crossing a common.
- Turn LEFT onto a minor road signposted ALDBURY.
- About 400 yards on the RIGHT is the basecamp entrance through a farm gate, which you may need to open.
- There is a signpost pointing to the basecamp.
For Meeting Place turn RIGHT out of basecamp towards ALDBURY. Follow road for ¾ mile, taking a hairpin bend, then down a steep hill. In ALDBURY turn FIRST LEFT along a narrow road. Valiant Trooper pub is 250 yards on LEFT.
Opened in 1988, the basecamp consists of 2 converted 19th-century barns situated in a secluded Chiltern woodland. One barn serves as the dormitory and the other houses kitchen, living area and washrooms.
