letters to the dragon

Ta for your Summer issue. I enjoyed Nancy Bennett's interview with Phyllis Gotlieb. I was struck by PG's mention of "poem-shaped thoughts", as this seems an important observation, often overlooked by genre writers. Great loads of science fiction is being published today but precious little SF poetry and this is a shame, because a lot of the stuff I've read over last few years alone might well have been better served if composed as long prose-poetry instead of conventional novels. There's always more than one way to tell a 'story', but both readers and writers shy away from poetry in droves. Why? Is it a 'class' thing..?
