Pilgrim
Adventure Guides
Paul
was brought up in Wales and after graduation did wildlife research for
seven years, followed by 27 years teaching - mainly in Orkney.
He is married to Hazel, from Aberdeenshire, who has spent most of her adult
life working with 3-5 year olds. Both follow an ecumenical pattern of worshipping
in a number of different Surrey churches. They have a grown-up family of
three daughters.
They currently live in England, where Paul is a church musician, particularly involved in music in the community, leading music events and reflective days. He also writes and travels to remote places. Together they have visited numerous islands and Paul has led Pilgrim Adventure journeys to St Kilda, Shetland, Fair Isle and Orkney. Associate membership of the Iona Community reflects a concern for prayerful action and social justice and a desire to reveal the Christian faith as relevant today. They are committed to mission in its broadest sense - and to the Celtic and Ignatian approaches, seeing ‘God in all things’ - in both people and in the natural world. |
Now
in his early 50’s, Steve spent most of his working life with Royal Mail,
travelling all over the country, though in September 2004 he started a
new career working near his home in Southampton, where he has lived since
1979. He is married with two teenage sons. His first journey with Pilgrim
Adventure was several years ago, to St Kilda. He enjoyed the companionship
offered by a small group of fellow Christians from a variety of backgrounds.
Since then Steve has enjoyed becoming a pilgrim leader and has tried to
facilitate similar experiences for others, in those remote places where
the spirit seems more accessible than in our busy modern world. |
Jill
lives in Devon and is a retired teacher and Housemistress, with grown up
family and two grandchildren. She has a keen interest in Celtic Spirituality,
fostered through visits to the lovely offshore islands that straggle much
of the western seaboard of the British Isles - ‘thin’ places where
the Celtic Christians felt creation and Creator to be very close. Jill
first travelled with Pilgrim Adventure to Orkney in 1997. Her first journey
as a pilgrim leader took her to Ireland in 2003. |
Daphne
works in Nursing and is married to Geoff. They have two grown up children.
Daphne loves the Celtic Heritage coming from Ireland, and has a passion
for the great outdoors, where she finds the grandeur and mystery of God
displayed in all its vagaries. She enjoys being with the folk who choose
to journey with Pilgrim Adventure and risk ‘Wandering for the love of Christ’.
Irish breakfasts a speciality! |
David
was brought up in the West Country and trained as a teacher in Wales, with
further Theological and Pastoral studies in Bristol. He values the rich
variety of worship styles found within the Church, and has a keen interest
in ecumenical matters.
Bethan was born in Wales and like David feels ‘at home’ in churches of all denominations. Bethan is an English graduate with a particular interest in the theatre and dramatic art. Both enjoy the outdoors and in particular travelling ‘off the beaten track’ to the remote places held sacred by the early Celtic saints. |
Cate
was born in Ireland and one of her earliest memories is of crossing the
sea to England as a child - the Celtic desire to wander was awakened.
Ten years ago Cate, who has worked in Nursing for most of her adult life, together with husband James, took a career break and worked and travelled on foot and tandem bicycle, in Europe and Morocco. Cate enjoys the sharing of experiences with fellow travellers. Cate is comfortable with all forms of Christian worship. She is particularly interested in Celtic and Franciscan spirituality. The ecumenical ethos of Pilgrim Adventure has opened her heart to different expressions of worship, through poetry, song and psalms. Animal welfare and conservation are particular interests |
I
am 47, a vicar, married to Libby and we have two daughters, Rebecca (11)
and Hannah (6). We have lived in central Gateshead for the last 9
years. I have enjoyed walking - especially in the Lake District -
for many years now. I also enjoy playing the drums, local history
and playing golf, when I get the time. |
Phil
lives in his native Isle of Man where he enjoys exploring the hills and
coast. Loves walking to recharge his batteries, and particularly fond of
the SW Coastal Footpath & the English Lakes. He’d like
to see a fairer division of the world’s resources and is involved with
Christian Aid. Back in the 80s he spent a couple of years working
in Pakistan with Church Mission Society, for whom he later co-led groups
of young people to Russia and Pakistan. |
