Membership Membership of The Company of the Green Man is completely free. We send out approximately four e-mails a year and will never pass your details on to anyone else. You can view our Privacy Policy Here About the Company of the Green Man (Founded 1998) Ronald Millar wrote the book The Green Man Companion and Gazetteer in 1997 and in a note at the back of the book invited interested people to join The Company of the Green Man. And thus (with a little bit of encouragement) The Company Began. Members enjoyed receiving copies of Ron's Newsletters from Number 1 in September 1998 up until number 27 in September 2005. Many of us assumed that Ron was having some of his usual technological troubles with issue 28 and waited patiently for it to appear, but alas it never did. Sadly Ron passed away in early 2006. His wonderful sense of humour, his aversion to technology and deadlines and his fascination with what he once described to me as “these mysterious green chaps” will be missed by us all. Keen and eager upon reading his freshly printed book and with an avid fascination in all things green man I wrote to Ron in early 1998 and asked to join the Company, to be told that I had caught him slightly unprepared. The book had gone out earlier than he had anticipated and the Company did not yet officially exist! Seven Months later it was flourishing! And so three years after Newsletter 27 in November 2008 I felt it my duty to continue the great work that Ron Began and to re-awaken The Company of the Green Man. I hope that this website and the blog will continue on from where Ron and the Company left off. Sadly the original membership list seems to have been lost, but I have managed to contact many of the original members and am still trying to contact more as well as encourage new members from around the world. I have already expanded on one of Ron’s original projects by building what I believe is currently the largest Gazetteer of green men in existence and I am constantly adding to it and improving it with the much appreciated help and hard work of our members. I have also gone further by creating an interactive and extensive flickr photographic archive of Green Men and Jacks-in-the-Green along with a video archive. I don’t intend to charge for membership, Ron only did so to cover printing and postage costs. Instead I am going to try to keep as paper free as possible and will keep an up to list of books on the Green Man and related subjects on the bookshop pages. All purchases made from Amazon UK through these links will cost you nothing extra but will earn The Company of the Green Man a small referral fee which hopefully will help to cover costs and keep these pages free. (in fact anything you purchase from Amazon after entering through one of our links will earn us a small referral fee and cost you nothing). There are also some small Google adverts on our website pages that earn us a few pennies each time you click on them. Those wishing to advertise within these pages are also welcome to contact us.
