Rare and Unreleased Tracks
Simon and Garfunkel bootlegs are quite rare. Most of the stuff
that they recorded in the studio was released, and the concert
recordings around normally feature the standard line-up of album
songs.
Paul Simon: 1964-1994 is an official release and so far is the
only album to contain previously unreleased material. I recommend
it, even if you already own all the albums of the period it
compiles over.
Simon and Garfunkel
A song from the 'Five To Ten' broadcasts that was not
re-recorded for The Paul Simon Songbook. The original
version, recorded in January 1965, was broadcast with eleven
other songs which would later make up Songbook. The song is
about young drug addicts, with a melody based upon Anji.
It has never been released as neither have the 'Five To
Ten' versions of the other songs. Since the songs were
recorded by the BBC, no tapes probably exist anymore due to
the BBC's stupid practise of deleting material they
considered unmarketable.
This is a tape Paul recorded for Kathy in 1965. It
consists mainly of guitar instrumentals and songs already
recorded for Songbook.
I don't know whether this has been bootlegged or not.
- Red Rubber Ball
In 1966, Simon and Garfunkel were recorded performing
live at Tufts University (see below). A release was
scheduled, but later cancelled. They sang 'The Dangling
Conversation', 'A Poem On The Underground Wall' and 'Red
Rubber Ball', a song not available in studio form.
The recording has been widely bootlegged.
- Fakin' It b/w You Don't Know Where Your Interest
Lies
- CBS 2911 - released August 1967
Fakin' It is an alternate early mix to
the Bookends cut
You Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies
is unavailable anywhere else except on
this single B-side and the lyrics are
about Paul's attitude towards women.
Actually this is not totally true the
song can be heard on the bootlegged Live
at the Tufts Univeristy 1966
- It is only available on bootleg.

- The Paul Simon Songbook ( 1965 )
This was only released in England in 1965. It is
a classic example of just how good the songs
sound with just Paul and a guitar. It hasn't been
re-released on record or CD and is very rare. By
the way, that's Kathy on the cover! See my Songbook page.

set.
- Cuba Si, Nixon No
Paul wanted this song to be the last on Bridge
Over Troubled Water but Art didn't. The song dealt with
Nixon's ruling that Cuba could not be visited by any
American citizen. They fought about the decision and Art
won. It is on the 1969 Back to College CD

- Voices Of Intelligent Dissent, August 23, 1968
This is an available bootleg, if you knwo where
to look, and has some great songs on it. It was
recorded and engineered by a legitimate engineer,
Al Kooper. So the sound quality is very good. My
favourite tracks have to be Cloudy and Punky's
Dilemma
- Mrs Robinson
- Homeward Bound
- April Come She Will
- Fakin' It
- Overs
- Feelin' Groovy
- America
- A Most Peculiar Man

- Cloudy
- The Leaves That Are Green

- Benedictus
- The Dangling Conversation
- For Emily, whenever I may find her
- A Poem On the Underground Wall
- Anji
- The Sound of Silence
- Richard Cory
- Old Friends
- He Was My Brother
- Recorded at Miami University, Oxford,
Ohio, 11 November 1969. This is
historically important, as it was this
tour that saw the first performance of
the 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' album.
You can see that even here Paul was
getting pissed off with Art being a movie
star. By saying 'No-one cares for the
little old song writer anymore.

A 1973? 'comedy' radio sketch featuring Art trying to
explain why Simon and Garfunkel broke up, with Paul
continually interrupting him with suggestions on how Art
is doing.
Can be found on the Paul Simon: 1964-1994 anthology 3-CD
set.
Tom and Jerry
A compilation of their singles was released in 1967 but
quickly withdrawn when Simon and Garfunkel got on the record
company's case. Their main objection was that the material was
being presented as tracks they'd recently cut, not stuff that was
ten years old.
Hey, Schoolgirl (2:15)
The Tom and Jerry hit single, recorded in 1957.
See below for more Tom and Jerry information.
