1993 Peugeot 405 Hunter estate
Bought: February 2008 for £375,
177,000
miles
There - one colour - much better!
The Hunter is quite a rare bird - a special edition sold between August and December 1993 based upon the GRDT estate. You got the 1.9 XUD9TE turbodizzler lump, electric windows all round, remote locking, aircon, front fog lights, wooden dash trim and gearknob, rear headrests and (I believe these were unique) chrome grille and roof rails. Colours were Sorrento Green (as mine is) or Burgundy metallics. I would be interested to know how many were sold.
Anyway, this particular Hunter was a company car for Alliance & Leicester for the first 3 years and 80,000 miles, and the driver then bought it from the company. He sold it to a friend of his in 2000 (at 144,000 miles) who then sold it to me 8 years later, having clocked up another 32k. So there is a full history with invoices and stamps to 144k, thereafter the car was serviced by the son of owner number 2 with the head gasket having been replaced (and the head skimmed and pressure tested) at 174,000. No receipts though.
At the moment the car is in need of a new water pump - so I will get the cambelt changed again as it has to come off and I have a new one - and some glowplugs. I then hope to get the aircon regassed and we are in business. The other faults are quite minor - headlining coming loose at the front (stapled back up), and someone has scratched "HI M8" on the bonnet. Let's see how it responds to a touch up.
Oh, and it has a dual-socket towbar already fitted so should be good for towing.
