1993 Peugeot 405 Hunter estate
Bought: June 2008 for £250,
128,000
miles
Sold: August 2008 for £350, 128,000 miles
Following a slight altercation with a brick wall with my other Hunter, I bought this one to swap over the front end panels (I had resprayed secondhand panels initially, but it didn't look good on close inspection), the driver's seat (unripped) and a set of GTX alloys with brand-new tyres.
As bought, the car exhibited a number of faults (hence the cheap price) - clutch pedal heavy (but liveable - cable most probably), no ventilation fan (solved by wiggling the wires underneath the glovebox!), no handbrake (I fitted new cables - a fun job), lowline centre console fitted so no rear electric window switches (solved with "spare" switches into rear blanking panel, and lockout button), and temperature gauge registering low (new thermostat). The turbo was more whistly than the others but I put that down to the lack of underdash trim panels - these have quite heavy soundproofing behind them normally.
With a long MOT I did consider keeping the car stored for a "rainy day", but the arrival of our daughter at the end of July meant time for fiddling with cars was much reduced, so it was sold on.
