Mr J Barrie

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Blackburn Royal Infirmary

Jim Barrie graduated from Edinburgh University and trained mainly in the north-west of England. I’ve been a foot and ankle surgeon in Blackburn for 10 years and 10000 new patients. After years of development we started the multidisciplinary Blackburn Foot and Ankle Service on 1st January 2000 with podiatric, physio and orthotics colleagues and links to diabetes and rheumatology. In 2004 this became a joint project with the PCTs, bringing our goal of a single seamless service across primary and secondary care throughout East Lancashire nearer. We are committed to evidence based practice through shared guidelines.

Jim Barrie is the webmaster for the British Orthopaedic Foot Surgery Society and a member of the education committee. He organises the foot and ankle module of the NW SpR training programme and teach on several other courses and at the British Orthopaedic Association. He is  a reviewer on foot and ankle topics for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. His research interests include the diabetic foot, ankle injuries and forefoot surgery
