Benjamin A. Lipsky received his medical training at the Cornell University in New York City; a residency in internal medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle; and trained in infectious diseases at the University of Washington affiliated hospitals. He was elected a Fellow in both the American College of Physicians and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.

 

Dr. Lipsky joined the Faculty of the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington in 1978, rising to the rank of full Professor. He is based at the Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, where he has been the head of the Infection Control Program, Medical Center Epidemiologist, and is Director of the General Internal Medicine Clinic.

 

Professor Lipsky is also Director of the Seattle Antibiotic Research Clinic, where he has conducted studies on various bacterial infections.

 

He has published over 150 scientific papers and book chapters on a variety of topics, with an emphasis on urinary tract infections in men and foot infections in diabetic patients. He has lectured throughout the world and served as visiting professor at Oxford University (UK) and other institutions. Professor Lipsky also chaired the infection guidelines committees of both the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
