The most interesting feature of this circle is to be found on its
south western side. Here a recumbent slab sits between two upright
flanking stones in a manner strongly suggestive of the recumbent stone
circles of Aberdeenshire. The presence of a large cairn adds to this
family resemblence. Given the diversity of regional styles seen on
Machrie Moor it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that
Auchagallon constitutes the 'Aberdeenshire' representative of this
group.
