Megalithic Links
A selection of links (arranged in the
order I found them) to places on the internet that should be interest
if you have visited my site...
- The Megalithic Portal and Megalithic map.
An extensive and comprehensive site. In their FAQ they describe
themselves as being 'The Hitch-hiker's Guide to Ancient Sites' and I
can't think of a better description than that!
- The Modern Antiquarian.
This massive web site accompanies and compliments Julian Cope's
excellent book of the same name. Another massive and comprehensive
resource.
- Stones of Wonder. A site concerning the megaliths of Scotland with a particular emphasis on archaeoastronomy.
- Alastair's stone circle pages. Particularly good for the stone circles of Derbyshire.
- Alastair's OTHER stone circle pages.
Dedicated to the less well known stone circles. There's a very good
section on Cumbria detailing some of the more obscure sites.
- M E g A L i T h i A. An excellent and clearly laid out web site containing a database of 1200-odd megalithic sites.
- The Stone Pages. One of the earliest megalithic websites (online since 1996) and still one of the best. Offers a Europe wide perspective.
- Scientific circles of stone.
Discusses the geometry and astronomy of stone circle construction. This
site should particularly interest those who have followed Professor
Thom's work.
- Stone circles in north east scotland. Exactly what it says. The emphasis is very much on the recumbent stone circles of this region.
- Friends of Grampian Stones. Home page of an organisation dedicated to the preservation of the many stone circles around Aberdeen.
- Cumbria stone circles. A concise guide to the Cumbrian stone circles which contains some impressive and interesting aerial photography.
- Orkneyjar describes
itself as 'a website dedicated to the preserving, exploring and
documenting the ancient history, folklore and traditions of
Orkney'. It does this, and very well. Anyone interested in
prehistoric Orkney should see this site - check out the sections
describing the Viking and Iron age history to be found in Orkney while
you are there as well.
