The Tyrebagger
stone circle stand upon a hillside north west of Aberdeen and overlooks
Aberdeen airport. Julian Cope mentions that the circle was surrounded
by trees when he visited it but these had been cleared away by the time
I visited the circle seven years after him. This has meant that the
extensive views from the circle can now be more easily appreciated.

The circle consists of ten upright red granite stones and these are
graded in height towards the recumbent and its flankers in the usual
fashion. The ring cairn and banking one would expect to see in a
recumbent circle are also present. The circle commands a fine
position on its hillside but now has a modern radio transmitter for
company. However such is the timelessness of this place that it is the
transmitter that looks incongruous and not the stones.

The huge recumbent has fallen away from its original position and now
leans inwards at forty five degrees. Thankfully all the other stones
stand as they have for the past four millennia.
