The New Brighton Rhythm and Blues Festival Background

The festival has been running, on a shoe string budget, since 1992 as an annual event. Although predominately providing entertainment over a single week end, we have provided smaller concerts throughout the summer. The festival attracts artists and visitors from outside of the area; in addition to providing a cultural focus to local residents. The festival also advances prospects and opportunities for local talent by providing a platform alongside the national and international artists we have hosted, including Jools Holland, Davey Graham............... (see previous posters for full details).

The festival is run by a core group of volunteers who provide everything from stewarding, transport, to hospitality. Last year we facilitated the training for the local volunteer stewards for this years Commonwealth Games to be held in Manchester. The festival was initially funded by the "Merseyside Development Corporation", "Wirral Borough Council", and local sponsorship. And, for the last three years "New Opportunities on Wirral". We have also had support from the "BBC Radio Merseyside" and provided live transmissions for "BBC Music Live".
