Annemarie Cracknell, Evesham Carnival Queen 2002
Two of the Carnival's participants This was the first carnival where I had an autofocus superzoom and all of the above were taken on Abbey Road as the carnival finished the procession through the town. Regrettably, I have decided that this will be the last carnival that I photograph, as the participation of children now makes it a touchy subject for someone with no immediate connection to the event to cover. Although it was not possible to completely avoid photographing children, I did not deliberately photograph any with the superzoom and will not be making any of these photographs available without the consent of the families involved. I consider this a pity as this is one of the most colourful events in the Evesham calendar, but I feel that under the current climate, this is my only option as a responsible photographer. If I am commissioned by someone with a direct connection to the event, or by the local newspapers, then I will reconsider, but only under those conditions. |
