Reviews of 'Stories'

"More of that edgy rockin' punk simplicity from the energy-farm that goes by the name of The Kokos. 'Stories' typifies the hunger of this ballsy trio and with two other tracks here, 'Chase The Money' and 'Four Stitches' to get stompin' to, 'Stories' is a smashin' EP by anybody's standards.

... Straight to the point, fully focussed, adrenalin fuelled and damn commercial, 'Stories' is laced with pumpin' bass work, strident guitar chords and frog-marchin' percussion; no frills, no excuses

The Kokos let their songs and musicianship do the talking here; beautifully assembled but never over-produced, 'Stories' is pure grit and grind! And, with these guys you just know what you're gonna get - full-on commitment and simple, honest-to-goodness craftsmanship. Their no frills, straight down to business attitude is genuine and pretty bloody refreshing... spine tingling rockin' punk that's as honest as the day is long - no complaints from me, 'Stories' is absolutely spot-on!!"

Reviews of 'Fourth'

"...more of the same beefy pop-rock that's instantly in-yer-face and pretty much unputdownable. The Kokos' magic formula has been re-visited here and once again it has proved to be a recipe for success.

...thumpin' big beats, jangly guitars, impassioned vocals all set a great song that pretty much insists on being played loud... The Kokos are Andy Young (vocals, guitar), Sibs (bass) and Rob Utton (drums) and together they make sweet rock music for the age - theirs is not pretty, theirs is not modest music but, by the same token, theirs is not forgettable music either... three play like four, three play as one!

... The Kokos have once again come up trumps with the excellent 'Fourth'. Just far enough from indie norm to be joyously acceptable but well within the bounds of commercial viability"

The Kokos create a scuzzy sound with frizzy edges alright, but that bass line is awesome and that's why 'Movin' On' is a much better track than I thought it would be... A solid trashy beat with dirty guitars spinning on top and a vocal that's got excitement and coolness wrapped up inside a half-sung and half-spoken melody. In the end, this song is darn good and captures a bit of that pre-Britpop craziness.

The Kokos are a decent sounding band on record and if they can put the same effort into every song as they have in 'Movin' On' then they'll do very well indeed.
