CALEDON,
COUNTY TYRONE
The small town of Caledon
began to grow after 1778 when the Alexander family bought land
in the area. James Alexander became the Earl of Caledon in 1800.
His son and grandson did a lot of work adding new buildings to
the town. The appearance of Caledon has not changed a great deal
in the last 130 years and is a very good example of a Georgian
town.
This trail will take
you around the town and make you look carefully at the buildings
in it. In the year 1846 Caledon was described as a "neat
and most beautiful town". Keep your eyes open and think about
the buildings in the town. Is it still neat and beautiful?
