THE STONE AGE IN ULSTER
Sometimes we think
that people who were alive thousands of years ago were not as
clever as we are. However, these people had to learn how to survive
in very harsh conditions, finding their own food and shelter.
We can learn a great deal about the early people in Ireland by
looking at the clues they have left behind.
During the period of
history known as the MESOLITHIC Stone Age FLINT was often used
to make tools.
The first people in
Ireland were HUNTERS and GATHERERS because they had to catch or
grow their own food. These people could not read or write and
so they have not left any written record of how they lived. So
how do we know about them? ARCHAEOLOGISTS have been able to discover
things about them by finding their tools or the remains of their
houses and monuments.
This is what a Mesolithic
Stone Age house would have looked like.
