To incorporate the actor into the modelled scene a simple plane was added...

   ...onto which the video of the actor was placed as a texture.
 

Within Adobe After Affects the blue background was used to create an alpha channel. This is a simple black and white picture that shows the outline shape of the actor.

This alpha channel was used in ElectricImage to make a Clipping Path. This removes the unwanted blue areas on the plane and just leaves the silhouette of the actor.

  Because the actor is now a cutout shape, he can cast shadows as well as receive them. This was the single most important device we found that helped to sit the actor into the scenes.
