"We held our breaths while dad, RAF trained, prepared for our first flight..."

New Car Delivered
The original model of the Peugeot car - as well as all the vehicles seen in the film - were built by students of Blackpool and The Fylde College, England.
On this original shell, finer detail was continually added throughout the production...
The Car Controls
...so that by the end, one could direct a camera at any point in or out of the car to get an image at this level of detail.
Dad Tries Out the Wipers
The footage of the actor was incorporated into the scenes at the modelling stage rather than during post-production. This allowed the father to be affected by the scene's coloured lights and for him to cast and receive shadows (see Making the Film section).
Dad Preparing for the First Trip
In the beginning a lot of the story was told by observing small details in the scenes. In this shot the father's military background was implied by the various books and pictures on the wall. It was found that the audiencenever took this information in, unless the scene was held for a long time or there was an extreme close-up. His military life is now simply mentioned in the narration!
