OTHER PRIMULA
| Derek also enjoys growing other members of the
Primulaceae family and has a selection of cowslips. The single yellow, red and
pink along with a double yellow. The candelabra yellow P. veris with
proliferated stem is rarer and was
grown from seed obtained locally.
|
| Other members of the Primulaceae family are
the cyclamen. In order the C.Africanum flowers in the Autumn and was grown from AGS seed
obtained in 1988. The C.Graceum was purchased from a nursery in 2003. The C.Persicum
JCA form from the Lebanon was grown from seed that was a gift from the late Jack Brown
in 1980.
|
| Two favourite P. Sieboldii in order are Colin and
Wrangle Pink. Colin was named after a friend the late Colin Jamieson who loved
P. Sieboldii and was past president of the Southern Auricula Society.
|
| Other primula are grown in either the
greenhouse, shade house or garden. David Valentine is a P. juliae x P. elatior
cross, Prague was premier edged auricula at Datchet in 2003. Terry's
Gift is a P. Kinlough Beauty x P. William Genders cross whose prime use
is as a breeding plant for striped polyanthus but can be grown to make a
very presentable show plant. Although Derek's most favourite group of
plants is the double auricula if he was allowed to grow only one primula
it would be the P. marginata cross Linda Pope.
