COMMENTS Like Unchained, LowCounty
was a limited edition release available only though the fan club or at live
appearances. The CD originally came without a cover in just a simple plastic
wallet. All tracks were new recordings, though not all were new songs. Be
The Sky is a re-working of the track Racing Heart, which
originally appeared on Cowabonga and is recorded with complete lyrics.
Other re-recordings are: If My Heart Should Lose Its Way, On A Lam From
The Law, Rock and Roll Heart and of course Freedom Knows My Name. The original CD suffered from
some sound problems, sudden starts and endings to some tracks and Melanie's
voice seeming to be mixed too far back. At the start of 2002, Gemini Studios
released an unauthorised version. This version was described as ‘digitally
re-mastered’ and there seemed to have been some attempt to correct the
problems of the original release but (for me) the sound on many of these
tracks is harsh. The CD did not follow the original track listing and dropped
Freedom Knows My Name and Song For Robert Johnson. However, it
did included a previously un-released recording of Prematurely Grey,
presumably recorded during the same sessions The 2004 re-issue does
overcome many of the sound problems and the sound quality is much improved
from the original release. It returned to the original track listing and,
this time, came complete with cover. |
