COMMENTS

This album while simple titled Melanie is more often referred to as The Dutch Album or Melanie 1987 (to distinguish it from her 1969 album). In fact this was Melanie's first proper album to be released on CD, though it was only issued in Holland. Cassette (MC 656.097) and vinyl (LP 856.097) formats also exist. It has now become one of the hardest albums to find. Few copies come up for sale. An autographed copy that appeared on Ebay had a starting bid of $100.

This album also sees the start of a series of releases, each in different countries and each one taking tracks (either directly or re-recorded) from its predecessor.

The album would probably be classed as 'soft rock' or 'adult orientated rock'.

The tracks Cyclone and Roadburn are both re-recordings of earlier songs, the former from Photograph (1976) and the latter from Arabesque (1982). These 1987 versions, along with the versions of Show You and Rock and Roll Heart are unique to this album and this is the only place that you’ll find a recording of It's A Fine World. A re-recorded (or re-mixed) version of Wonderer, titled I Can’t Help But Wonder, turned up as the B-side of the single To Be A Star in Australia.
