COMMENTS Released on the re-branded
Buddha label (formally Buddah), this compilation, re-mastered by Robert
Fripp finally delivers the full-length version of Lay Down (Candles In
The Rain). Sadly it does not deliver much else that is new. It takes its
tracks from the Buddah and Neighborhood years. Yet, with so much Neighborhood
material still un-released on CD, the selected tracks from this era duplicate
those on the Rhino's The Best Of and only Lover's Cross is new
to CD. The CD starts and ends with
two recent recordings. Summer of Love II is an alternate version of the
song that appears on Old Bitch Warrior and had previously only been
available as a promotional radio single. The closing track, I Will Get
Over, is an edited and remixed version of the track from Freedom Knows
My Name/Silence Is King. The CD has extensive sleeve
notes that even cover the breakdown of the relationship between Melanie and
the original Buddah Records. |
