Client: Fraser Randall
Project: Henley River & Rowing Museum
Background to the brief
Creation of a new visitor centre in Henley based on three exhibiton/museum galleries in a new purpose designed building completed as a separate project.
Fraser Randall are a Project Management/Construction Management company specialising in Museum and visitor attraction projects. On this particular project they were contracted by Land Design to manage and oversee the fitting out of the three exhibition galleries and entrance/ticketing areas by the appointed main contractors, Scena.
At the time of my appointment the detail design of the individual galleries was incomplete and the final budget had yet to be agreed with the client.
Other consultants were also involved in the detail design and specifying of equipment relating to the galleries, notably lighting and graphics.
My Role
I was employed by Fraser Randall to ensure that:
the design process was completed to an agreed programme
the budget was finalised within the agreed perameters
the fitting out of the galleries was executed within the contract programme and in accordance with the contract design
any gaps in information were identified and ensure the correct information was relayed to the contractor and consultant team.
This role required me to gain a thorough knowledge of all aspects of the project both construction and design.
I chaired weekly design team meetings with the creative team and the museum curators who possessed the specialist knowledge required in order to finalise the design throughout the galleries. Principly the task here was to check on status and progress, risk management of missing or incomplete information and budget.
I also chaired weekly site meetings with the contractor and consultant team to manage the information flow from the designers, programme, budget and relating site matters.
All meetings were minuted and actioned by myself ensuring the smooth implementation of the project.
The project was completed on time and budget.
