QOFL 2 Culm Davey - 20 November 2005 Results

Planners report.

Planning at Culm Davy is very convenient for me as I live within sight of the area. It is also a frequent dog walking area for us, so not much time was needed to get familiar with the area.

This was the second of the new style QOFLs, having a Blue course and being on a Sunday. Both changes seem to be well received with two good turnouts so far.

We were able to introduce what, as far as I know, is another QO first. Written control descriptions on the maps, but pictorials available for those who prefer them. This really made Norman's day, someone actually took heed of his observations!

We also used our own printer for the first time. It is not quite perfect as there was some faint horizontal banding on the yellow on some maps. A pity we did not print a few more Blue maps, I claim it was the nice day, and the lack of climb, that moved a few people from Green to Blue.

No controls were vandalised, no one lost their dibber, and no one claimed we had a control in the wrong place.

QOFL Scores

Enclosed with the results are the QOFL scores after two events. This season the emphasis of the League has changed after much discussion at QO Committee meetings. It has been decided that the main focus of the League will be the converted scores of each competitor taken straight from their finish times (Elite). At the end of the season the first three in each Elite class will receive a certificate whilst the winner will receive a trophy. We shall also be showing a League table based on the handicap scores of each competitor and here just the winner of each class will receive a certificate. The other change is that we are now offering competitors a chance to run a Blue course at the QOFL events. Also this year, rather than ask competitors to fill in a form if they wish to be included in the League tables, I have taken the liberty of putting everyone in – like the Galoppens! The only exception is competitors who do not belong to a recognized Orienteering club.

If there are any queries about the scores please contact me.

Next QOFL (No. 3) is on Sunday 4th December at Quantock Forest South (Triscombe) at Grid Reference ST163359. For details ring Brian Fletcher on 01935 424569. Registration from 11.30.a.m. Starts from 12 midday to 2.00.p.m.
