Planner's Comments

First of all thank you to all those who said they enjoyed the course, it makes all the work worthwhile. It was also good to see new faces enjoying the sport in the sunshine. Priors Park is a small area made even smaller by the lack of permission for the area to the North of the map. As my first planning for a few years this provided a challenge, luckily the use of electronic punching helped.

Since my initial visit the vegetation sprung into life (along with the tadpoles 150m before the finish) and in several areas the boundaries changed slightly making some controls tricky but acceptable if taken with care. From comments, it seems the trickiest was the wall end (9 on Green, 12 on Blue) with a number of people commenting on the best route in. I reckon the optimum route was to come down the hill to the small fenced area next to the out of bounds then follow the veg boundary to the fork in the stream (with small hill) then either follow the south eastern stream to the next fork and bearing into the wall or go diagonally through the vegetation onto the wall.

Finally thanks to Richard for keeping me straight, though I still don’t agree with moving the control out of the gully and making it more visible, and Brian for the organisation on the day.

Controller’s Comments

What a superb spring day to be outside. The area was a lot drier than it often is and the sunshine made the whole experience very pleasant. I hope you all appreciated the added colour of the bluebells and the smell of the wild garlic.

Priors Park is a technically intricate area, hence all the courses were quite short in distance. I hope you all found the difficulty at the right level. The times suggest we got it about right. Apologies for those who wanted a long run but the area has limited opportunity for full speed running off the paths. We tried to keep you away from the worst of the brambles but as it is I ended up dealing with three first aid cases and I expect most of you will have some scratches to show for your efforts.

With part of the woods out of bounds to us on this occasion I think Nick did a superb job fitting all the courses in a smaller than usual area so many thanks to him. Thanks also to Brian and his efficient team of helpers. Thanks also to Bill for mapping and e-punching - glad to see you got a run in yourself this time. Thanks of course to all who came, I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.
