Planners Report
A new experience for me, and one for which I had not fully anticipated the work involved. I shall be more appreciative of others' efforts in future. I was anxious to choose control sites having the correct degree of technical difficulty and some route choice without being unduly arduous in the undulating terrain - so apologies if you found the 315 m climb a bit much on green. I found that avoiding the open ground around the farm restricted the area, and this had the consequence of at least one individual - who should have known better - dibbing proximate controls in the wrong order. "Last in the season" I was advised, so not to worry if courses were a little long. Andy Rimes was very helpful as controller, with many advised corrections and some fairly radical suggestions, including completely reversing the direction of my original course loops. I do think the strategy worked and his good judgement and experience paid off, so many thanks to him, and to several others who helped collect in the stuff afterwards. I didn't hear too many moans on the day (but perhaps you were all being too nice to the novice?). I learnt a lot and had fun doing it, so I might be persuaded to have another go.

Controller's report
Given Croyden Hill's location and a bank holiday weekend, I was worried for Martin, as a novice planner, that competitor numbers would be at best down, or worse very low. He put in a lot of work to produce I think excellent courses, that I hope you all enjoyed, and would have been disappointed by a low turnout. Fortunately the perfect weather brought enough of you out to make for a rewarding day. As this was to be the last QOFL event of the season, we decided we would try a longer green course as a taster for the possible inclusion of a blue course in next seasons' events. (a subject of recent debate by the committee) The resulting times given the extra length and climb on green are about spot on, and comments by finishers very positive, so I think we got it more or less right.

QOFL SCORES
Enclosed with the results are the final QOFL scores after all six events. A reminder that it is the best four scores to count. Mary Buckland (Wim) and Declan Gray (QO) had already won the Light Green and Orange respectively, but all the other classes were decided at this final event of the 2004-5 season. The winners of the other classes were Ted Heath (Elite Green), John Higgins (Green), Mark Pigden (Yellow) and Daniel Craddock (White). Well done to all those competitors.
Well done also to the seven runners who competed in all six events during the season - Jenny Wood, John Higgins, John Trayler, John Chesters, Don Gray, Hugh Crawford and Mike Kite. A special mention should go to Mike who managed to accumulate scores of 701, 732, 758, 714, 717 and 786 - what consistency!
The presentation for the first three in each class will take place at the Buffet following the QO Club Championships on Saturday 21st May at The Cottage Inn - I hope that you can be there. For details of the event please contact Club Chairman Roger Craddock (01823 323850).
If there are any queries about the scores please contact me.
