SOUTHERN ROCK ALLSTARS
CRAZY AGAIN
(TAZER RECORDS)

THE BAND

DAVE HLUBEK (GUITARS & VOCALS)
JACKSON SPIRES (DRUMS & VOCALS)
JAY JOHNSON (GUITARS & VOCALS)
CHARLES HART (BASS & VOCALS)

This CD has been high on our review list after we read about the group on a rock/metal webzine.  Two members of this great band need no introduction as they are both living legends.  Dave Hlubek was a founding member of Molly Hatchett and Jackson Spires was a founding member of the mighty Blackfoot. What a pedigree these two guys have.  Joining them in the band are Jay Johnson & Charles Hart who have both played and worked in some pretty big groups themselves.  Soundwise they are pure southern rock crossed with a heavy dose of melody and that in itself will make sure this album appeals to large audience of rock fans. The songwriting is of a very high standard and it won't take you long to get into this CD as all the tracks are hook-filled and very memorable. Stand out songs for me are the opening 'Train Of Sorrow' which was co-written by Ricky Medlock and the fantastic 'Traveller' both of these will soon become bonafide classics. Just check out the guitar work on the latter for further proof.  If I was being picky I would say that there are not enough all out rockers on this CD for my own particular taste, perhaps the band will rock-out a bit more on the next album.  One track the band do 'go for it' is on the superb cover version of the Thin Lizzy song 'Don't Believe A Word'  which features more superb guitar work.  One thing for certain is that the band are going to be one hell of a live attraction as the songs are dying to be played in front of a large crowd.  All in all then a excellent release that should be hunted down straight away.  Also worth checking out is the band's website www.southernrock.com - on the site you will find everything you need to know about the band and you can even download two songs.  Special thanks to Lester Shelley who works for the band for sending in the CD.  We now have a Promo Picture of the Southern Rock Allstars proudly placed on our office wall and it's one band we will be 'spreading the word' about big time over the coming months.  Good luck with the CD guys                HOME
