The surname "Clasper" appears to have originated in the Northumberland area of England.

One theory is that "Clasper" is a Hanoverian name, this would appear to be based on the fact that the Hanoverian immigrants populated parts of the east coast of England. However, this migration appears to have taken place after the origin of the name in the North-East of England.

A small group of "Clasper" families have been found in North Lincolnshire from 1600, but these had disappeared by 1837.

Today, 50% of "Claspers" still live in the North-East of England.
