![]()
Another of the much prized Australian "Mallee Burr's". The underside of this whole burr has had the bark carefully removed, revealing the tactile and visually appealing coral like structure beneath. The underside has not been touched other than the addition of a foot and small supporting button turned from Scottish Elm. The gloriously burred upper surface has had several coats of clear lacquer and a final wax polish.
Whole Mallee Burr 19 Long x 10 Wide x 3.1/2" Tall : The bowl diameter is 6.1/2"
Mallee's (an Aboriginal word) are a growth-form
rather than a species, in other words, a Eucalypt having many stems arising
from a large, underground, woody swelling composed of stem tissue called
a lignotuber. Llignotubers are large, woody, swellings often 0.3-0.6 mtrs
in diameter and often up to 1.5 mtrs. The largest recorded was 10 mtrs across,
which carried 301 living stems.

Another much prized Australian "Mallee Burr". The bark on this whole burr has been carefully removed from the underside to reveal the tactile and visually appealing coral like structure beneath. The underside has not been touched other than the addition of a small foot turned from Scottish Elm. The gloriously burred upper surface has been wax finished. You will notice in the picture, a group of small tunnels near the bowl rim, these were created by some unknown Australian boring insect which I have left untouched for added interest and as a testament to nature. Wax finish.

A sturdy footed bowl turned from the very attractive Coolabah Burr displaying a lovely burr pattern. The bowl is supported by a flared foot and the overall form is slightly oriental in appearance featuring a delicately rolled rim. Various small voids formed by bark inclusions have been inlayed with brass adding a little sparkle. The wonderful colouring in this piece ranges from cream to reddish brown. Wax finish.
Coolabah Burr 7dia. x 3.1/4
A broad rimmed bow turned from Zebrano, the grain pattern of this African timber is always visually striking. The broad rim has been decorated with five concentric grooves.Wax finish.
Zebrano 8.1/4 dia. x 2.1/4.
I'm afraid I find the colouring of Indian Rosewood very
difficult to capture on camera, predominately light and dark banding but
so much more, the lighter banding contains hues of light brown, green, red
through to dark purple when the light hits it just so. A very beautiful timber.
Wax finish.
Indian Rosewood 7.3/4 dia. x 2.3/4
An Oak fruit bowl which would grace any table, the form
and design is timeless and features a pronounced flared and rolled rim, an
added bonus is an area of darker colouring to one side of the bowl adding
extra interest. Wax finish
Oak 10.3/4 dia. x 2.3/4
A natural edge bowl full of character, bark inclusions and fissures abound throughout adding interest to this beautiful Australian timber. Four concentric rings encompass the inner raised rim of the darker bowl interior which is a maelstrom of light and dark shades, inclusions and fissures. Wax finish.
Red Gum Burr 11.1/2 x 2.1/2 Inner bowl diameter is 4.3/4"
A small decorative bowl in Columbian Pine. The very striking grain is softened and complemented by ebonising the inner bowl and outer rim which has also been textured for added interest. Wax Finish
Columbian Pine 6.1/4 dia. x 2
A natural edge bowl, or at least two sides have a natural edge including some bark. The burr pattern in this piece is tight and intense and the colour ranges from cream to a lovely light brown. the outer rim segments are nicely flared leading down to the well defined inner rim. Wax finish
Mallee Burr 11.1/2 outer dia. x 2.1/2 The inner rim dia. is 7.3/4"
A very tactile, organic form. The open double barley twist stem tapers from the heavy bead at the base to the much lighter bead at the top which gives rise to the flared and beaded cup that will take a candle with a diameter of 2.3/8" maximum, or slightly larger if lightly trimmed, a small 1/2" deep hole is also required to be made in the bottom to accommodate the small ebony retaining spike in the centre of the cup.
