Dartmoor is a magical area to explore with its rugged hills and wooded valleys. Princetown is at it's heart and there are many other towns and villages to explore, such as Widecombe, Two Bridges, and Postbridge. Within an hour's drive from Dunsford you can be in Plymouth, Tavistock, Dartmouth, Sidmouth, Taunton, or even Exmoor; and the North Devon towns of Barnstaple, Bude and Tintagel (Cornwall) are also accessible. The sandy beaches of Exmouth, Torquay and Paignton are only 20 miles away. Our village is ideally situated for touring Dartmoor and the rest of Devon, and it is well located for visits to National Trust properties such as Castle Drogo, Lydford Gorge, Killerton Gardens , and for a stopover en route to Cornwall. Newquay, St Ives, Truro and Penzance can all be reached within two hours driving time from Dunsford. |

Castle Drogo, only five miles from Dunsford, is an extraordinary granite and oak castle, which combines the comforts of the 20th century with the grandeur of a baronical castle. The castle has terraced formal gardens with herbaceous borders and rose beds. You can also enjoy a game of croquet on the huge circular lawn. Standing at more than 900ft above sea level it has wonderful views overlooking the splendid wooded gorge and the surrounding Dartmoor areas.
